Swimming Pool & Water Feature Lighting
Underwater LED design: safety codes, IP68 requirements, color changing, and stunning visual effects for pools and fountains.

Safety First — Electrical Requirements
Pool lighting operates in the highest-risk electrical environment — water and electricity. Safety standards are non-negotiable: • IEC 60364-7-702: Defines zones around swimming pools (Zone 0: inside the pool, Zone 1: up to 2m from pool edge, Zone 2: 1.5m beyond Zone 1). • Zone 0 (underwater): ONLY Safety Extra Low Voltage (SELV) at ≤ 12V AC or ≤ 30V DC permitted. IP68 minimum. All luminaires must be specifically certified for underwater use. • Zone 1: SELV or PELV only, IP65 minimum. All equipment must be suitable for splash exposure. • Transformers/drivers: Must be located outside Zone 2, with safety isolation (Class II or SELV/PELV rated). • RCD protection: 30mA RCD mandatory on all circuits serving pool areas.

RGBW Color Effects
RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) LED pool lights create stunning color-changing effects. Design considerations: • Use RGBW (not RGB) — the dedicated white LED provides clean white light that RGB mixing cannot achieve. • DMX512 control provides the most precise color programming for choreographed shows. • Bluetooth/Wi-Fi pool light controllers offer simple homeowner control via smartphone. • Color temperature of white mode: specify 4000-5000K for pools (creates a clean, inviting blue-green water appearance) vs 3000K for warm decorative effects. • For competition/lap pools: white-only at 300-500 lux underwater illuminance per FINA requirements.
GCC Pool Lighting
In the GCC, pool lighting must account for: extreme UV exposure degrading fixtures and lenses (specify UV-stabilized materials), salt water and chemical-resistant housings (316L marine-grade stainless), high water temperatures reducing LED lifespan (derate for 35°C+ water), and dust/sand accumulation on above-water fixtures requiring IP66 minimum for the pool surround.
