Hotel Guest Room Lighting Design
Creating the perfect lighting experience for 5-star hospitality.

The Four Layers
World-class hotel room lighting uses four distinct layers: **Ambient** (general room fill), **Task** (reading, desk, mirror), **Accent** (artwork, architectural features), and **Mood** (cove lighting, indirect glow). Each layer should be independently controllable.
Guest Room Lighting Zones
| zone | lux | cct | control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bedhead reading | 200–300 lux | 2700K | Individual dimming |
| General ambient | 100–150 lux | 2700–3000K | Scene preset |
| Bathroom vanity | 300–500 lux | 3000–4000K | Separate circuit |
| Desk/work area | 300–500 lux | 3000K | Task switching |
| Cove/indirect | N/A | 2700K | Dimming |
| Entrance/corridor | 100 lux | 2700K | Master keycard |
The Golden Rule
CRI 90+ minimum for all guest room fixtures. Guests compare their appearance in the mirror against daylight. Low CRI makes skin look grey and unnatural — a subconscious but powerful negative impression.
Scene Design
Design at least 4 scenes: **Welcome** (all on, 80%), **Relax** (cove and accent only, 40%), **Sleep** (bedhead only, 10%), **Night** (bathroom with nightlight). GRMS (Guest Room Management System) integration controls scenes from bedside panels and master keycard.
